How to clone and program new TPMS sensors with Autel MX Sensors & MaxiTPMS PAD

Here I show you how you can buy TPMS sensors on the cheap and clone your existing ones to avoid having to visit your dealer to reprogram your vehicle. Use this if you are replacing a broken TPMS sensor, or if you want to install new ones, especially in winter tires, for example.

I'm doing this for my 2009 Honda Odyssey EX-L, but the principles apply to any supported vehicle.

Since I posted this video, Autel has released a new sensor that works on both 315MHz and 433MHz called the "1-Sensor", so you don't need to worry about which frequency your vehicle works on. To figure out if these sensors will work with your vehicle, go to this page, click on "Downloads" and download the document called "TS508_V6.19_FunctionList_" that ends with the two-letter code for the global market you are in ("US" for North America): https://www.maxitpms.com/tpmscms/product2/794.jhtml That spreadsheet will also tell you whether your vehicle automatically learns new TPMS sensors. If it says "A", then you do not need programmable sensors at all. Just buy any compatible sensor that works on the right frequency for your vehicle.   1. I can't get MaxiTPMS PAD to read the ID from either my 2006 Camry LE nor from my 2006 Lincoln Navigator. Is this just a bad unit?

    1. Are you sure the sensors that you're reading are still good? Is your TPMS light on inside the car? Also, if you're reading the sensors while they're still in the tire, try moving the PAD around. It might work better over the rubber rather than over the rim.

  2. Gabriel the light is ON on the Camry there is no problem or light on on the Navigator. I tried moving the PAD like you said but it made no difference. I just ordered the Autel TS401 and keeping my fingers crossed.

  3. So I got the ts408 and copied my sensor from my 2016 odyssey.
    I did a manual input.
    They don't seem to be working. As the toms light is on.
    You have any ideas?
    I scanned both the original and the cloned Autel 315 and they give the same id hex. Just still throughing a "tpms" light not a low tire

    1. How long have you driven around with the new sensor in? It does take a little while (the tires have to warm up before they start reporting the tire pressure, and the light won't turn off until it starts reporting the pressure)

    2. Yeah I drove for a good 20 minutes.....between 20 and 60 mph. And the toms light came on right as I was getting close to home......
      I think where I screwed up was without paying attention I programmed them under a Ford Focus and not Honda odyseey like the car they are going in. Now how do I reprogram them AGAIN for the right car.
      I think this is my problem. But now when I try and reprogram them I get no sensor detected.
      I read someone saying I had to have the pressure of the tire at zero psi (removing the valve core) is what is nessesary to reprogram them again.
      And idea about this?

    3. You may be able to program them again without removing them from the tire at all. Try with just hold the pad up to the valve stem. Some people have said that letting air out of the tire "wakes them up" so that the pad can communicate with it. But if all that doesn't work, then you may have to take it out to program it.
      But reprogramming is the same as programming the first time. You just do all the same thing all over again.

    4. I'm having a similar problem. I did a manual input of the sensor ID and it successfully programmed, however, the ID I put in was 1 digit off. Now, I can't get it to reprogram!

    5. They are locked with pressure. Let the air out and you can reprogram.

    6. I bought my car with two set of tires.
      Summer tires worked ok with qashqai. At that second when i swapped my wither tyres i got tpms warning.
      System works when i cold start my car and fails after 5 minutes of driving.
      This is something related to my winter tires OEM tpms sensors. I copied my OEM winter tyre sensors to MX ones and had them fitted. Everything went ok except the fact that fault was still there, works ok 5 min then fails.
      This dissapears when i put my summer tires back on. So i think my car only has 4 id:s programmed to ecu. So what i desided to do is copy ids from summer tires.
      This stopped to the fact that (Check mx senors) option wont read my MX sensors, so i cannot reprogram mx sensors.
      Tomorrow i try jack up the car and let the air out of tire.

  4. I've removed the sensor from my 2008 GMC Yukon and placed it on the pad. the pad reads the old senor but when trying to program the new one it reads no sensor . I've try putting the new sensor on the pad and it reads it without a problem. I've tried to enter the number from the old one and again program reading no senor.

  5. I've tried to program the new sensor for my 2008 GMC Yukon. I removed the old sensor and it test without a problem,but the new one will not program. I tested the new sensor and it tested without a problem. I've tried entering the number but after pushing the program button it reads no senor or no program needed, then a failed

  6. Okay, so I could get the scanner to scan my Odyssey sensors, but neither of my Toyota vehicles (Tacoma and Camry). The Odyssey has an issue, but there's nothing wrong on the Toyotas -- I just wanted to test the pad. Any advice?

  7. I accidentally programmed my sensors as 433mhz, but they are 315mhz. I have a GMC Sierra that has a year with overlapping frequencies, and I picked the wrong one based on the year, not the build date. Now when I try to do a relearn using the original wheels and sensors, which are 315mhz, the MX sensors (which are both 315 and 433) will not pick up the Autel unit. I can only assume it is because the sensors are set at 433, and the Autel is trying to send a 315mhz signal. Is there any way to erase the sensor programming I have done, and bring them back to original so I can relearn at 315?

    1. I'm no expert on those ones. I did just buy a few recently and everything worked out ok for me. You should be able to use the "Test MX Sensor" function to read the sensors and it should tell you the frequency that it's programmed with. If you're correct that it's programmed with the wrong frequency, I imagine you should be able to just select the right model and reprogram them, without having to reset them in any way.

    2. It's not working. I'm trying to reprogram by OBD, using the existing codes from the truck. The sensors won't respond when I am trying to program 315, but they do respond if I use a 433 frequency to test them. It just seems like they are locked into the 433 frequency now, and there is no way to communicate in 315.

    3. Reprogram by OBD? Maybe I'm misunderstanding you, but the sensors can't be programmed by OBD (through the car's computer).

    4. Program by OBD means that he reads the sensor numbers stored in the cars computer through the obd then programs those serial numbers into the new sensors.

  8. I accidentally programed the wrong number into my Autel MX-Sensor, and now it won't let me reprogram it. Even if I deflate the tire entirely, and the sensor read 0 Psi. I stille get the following message, "Programming failed.[Error Code:-2]" Anybody know how to clear the MX-Sensor for reprogramming?

    1. You can, yes. However your car would need to learn that it's there. Some cars automatically learn new sensors. Other cars have some procedure you can follow to relearn sensors without needing any tools. Other cars (like my van) have to be programmed with a special tool. You can check your owner's manual to see if there is some kind of procedure listed in there. Otherwise, search online and see what you can find.

      I used programmable sensors to avoid having to program my van every time I changed between summer to winter tires.
